love

I found a poem today on Neil Gaiman's blog that made me cry. The original post can be found here. It's called "Sonnet", and the last two lines blow me away.

(Edit: Poem redacted, due to the realization that hey, that was a bad idea to post something without permission. And no, no one told me I had to. Chalk it up to the aforementioned sleep deficit. Click the link, folks.)

I've never been the hugest fan of Gaiman. Though I've never read any of his books, I did watch Mirrormask, and while very neat to look at, it felt contrived.

And then I watched Stardust. Holy god. It's fantastic. Have you seen it, Angel?

I saw Mirrormask back while I was living in Bemidji and liked it well enough, though it's certainly not on my list of movies I must own or anything. I don't know about it being contrived, exactly, but the story just didn't catch me as much as the visuals. Meh.

Haven't seen Stardust yet, as I've been a bit of a hermit for the past six months or so, but it's on my list to rent sometime this week. (Along with Gremlins, incidentally, because apparently my nerd club membership will be revoked or something if I don't see that one soon .)

stardust is really good. and yes, you will be kicked out of nerd club if you don't watch gremlins.

his book american gods is relatively decent as well, for a book. I think all in all that I like Tad Williams more as an author than I do Gaiman.

I liked American Gods pretty well and LOVED Neverwhere. Now I'm on the lookout for used/sale copies of either of his short story collections. Particularly Fragile Things.

I'm not familiar with Tad Williams, though from the Google search I just did, sounds like I'd like him. Recommendations?

I'd start out with the book War of the Flowers, if you can dig his style and can handle the length, it's a good starter book. Mainly because it's one book. Try that first, and then probably otherworld, and then maybe Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn.
